Last year, Barry Allen and Oliver Queen officially entered each other’s respective worlds for their first team-up. While there were some growing pains, each episode of the Flash and Arrow crossover event tailored its content to perfectly suit the tastes of each show’s respective fans. Now it seems their next adventure together will be a little more cohesive than the last.

A consistent presence in cinemas for over 50 years, the 007 franchise has seen its fair share of ups and downs. For every Die Another Day that almost kills the franchise, there exists a Casino Royale to come along and revive it; for every instantly classic Goldeneye there’s an underwhelming A View To A Kill.

Time travel has always existed as a fairly prominent Hollywood storytelling device, but recently it has become one of the industry’s more commonly used tropes. There’s absolutely no arguing about it: comic book properties have begun to dominate the airwaves. Whether from Marvel or DC (or elsewhere), everything from superheroes to anti-heroes have done an effective job of carving out more than a niche for themselves on numerous television networks. But just because these comic book-related series have found success doesn’t mean the recipe is guaranteed to work one hundred percent of the time.

Show business is exactly that: a business. Bringing iconic superheroes to the silver screen in particular requires incredible sums of money to faithfully portray their grandiose subject matter. In this regard, studios must tread lightly with their investments, for fear of ending up with a flop like 2011’s Green Lantern.

Everyone knows about the jokes surrounding comic book characters and death: it’s fairly inconsequential to them. Despite this, the way in which 2013’s Man of Steel saw Superman (Henry Cavill) brutally snap General Zod’s (Michael Shannon) neck seemed pretty definitive — assuring that the villainous Kryptonian would appear as nothing more than the corpse in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

A heavy-handed sermon masquerading as an inspirational story, Woodlawn’s narrative will play to the most pious members of the movie audience – and absolutely no one else. Opening on the landmark NCAA football game in 1970 – in which a racially integrated USC beat Alabama – Woodlawn introduces Alabama coach Paul “Bear” Bryant (Jon Voight) realizing the value of black players in football.

Such is the nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that heroes often don’t start off their relationships on the best of terms. Remakes have become a staple among Hollywood studios over the last decade. An optimist would say they allow filmmakers to try new and interesting things with beloved properties, while a cynic would likely tell you that they cheapen iconic pieces of cinema. Depending on one’s perspective, it makes each and every bit of information regarding Fox’s remake of John Carpenter’s classic Escape from New York that much more enticing.
