Are you excited for Captain America: Civil War? That question was rhetorical because I already know you are. Of all the potentially groundbreaking films that will hit cinemas in 2016, arguably no other has built up as much hype as Civil War. The bar for the major Marvel smack down was already pretty high, but if new reports are any indication, you may want to set your expectations even higher.

Oliver Queen has come so far over the last few years. Between taking on a team of fellow vigilantes, adopting the persona of Green Arrow, and seriously dialing back his penchant for murder, The CW’s resident archer has matured a lot since his neck-snapping days as The Hood on Season 1 of Arrow. Despite all of that progress, there are still certain aspects of the iconic Oliver Queen that audiences have long clamored for.

With the arguable exception of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Steve Rogers a.k.a Captain America (Chris Evans) represents one of the most important characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As news, images, and trailers have slowly trickled in regarding the impending release of Captain America: Civil War, one element of the upcoming superhero smack down remains decidedly absent: Spider-Man. Although we’ve seen numerous glimpses of newer characters like Black Panther and the return of General Ross, the web head has not had a single frame of promotional material devoted to his impending introduction.

The Flash has become one of the greatest superhero programs ever to grace the small screen – despite the fact that it’s been on the air for less than two seasons. Grant Gustin has crafted a pitch perfect version of Barry Allen that die-hard fans and casual viewers both seem to gravitate towards. It’s for this reason that many people found themselves upset when Warner Bros. revealed that actor Ezra Miller would take on the mantle of The Flash in the upcoming DC films.

The Oscars are upon us, and we have to come right out and say that the nominees represent an endlessly talented group of people. While DC understandably continues to play catch up when compared to the progress Marvel Studios has made since Iron Man hit theaters back in 2008, one has to respect their willingness to deviate from the path well-traveled. While Marvel has developed a singular, cohesive cinematic universe where everything matters, Warner Bros. and DC have created sovereign, insular worlds on the silver and small screens that have much less connection to one another.

By the time the credits rolled on the final episode of Daredevil season 1, Hell’s Kitchen had seemingly found a savior in the form of blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). The visually challenged litigator had finally donned his iconic red suit and took to the streets to dish out justice, but with season 2 on the way, it seems he still has trouble coping with the word “hero.”.

Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) says it himself: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will showcase the greatest gladiator match the world has ever seen. As the tragic events of Man of Steel reverberate throughout the fledgling DC Extended Universe — amid the fears of countless other humans — Batman (Ben Affleck) sees no other choice but to take down the nearly omnipotent alien (Henry Cavill) who claims to be a symbol of hope.

With the impending release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s becoming more and more obvious that we will be seeing a cinematic version of the Justice League fully assembled much sooner than previously assumed. While Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman will indeed go toe-to-toe, it’s also been established that Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ezra Miller’s Flash, and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman will show up to varying degrees before the credits roll.

As American has become more and more entrenched in Middle Eastern conflict over the years, fimmakers have become more and more brazen in their portrayal of that conflict. Films like Lone Survivor and American Sniper told compelling yet controversial stories of modern war, and the effect that war has on American men and women.

Most people generally remember the 1970s as a time characterized by amazing music, terrible clothes, and social upheaval. It’s not necessarily an era associated with superheroes, but then again, when time travel is involved anything is possible. While some of the heroes featured in DC’S Legends of Tomorrow were not even alive during the iconic decade, it seems that the show will allow them to take a trip back to that groovy era.
